These terms govern your use of GrindWise ("the app"), operated by GrindWise ("we", "us", "our"). By downloading or using the app, you agree to these terms.

The service

GrindWise is an espresso coaching app that provides grind, dose, and yield suggestions based on taste feedback you provide. The app stores data locally on your device and offers an optional AI-powered bag scanning feature.

Suggestions are generated by a rule-based engine and, for the bag scan feature, by a third-party AI service. These suggestions are informational only and are not guaranteed to produce any specific result. Coffee is subjective, and your experience may vary.

Subscriptions

GrindWise offers a free tier with limited functionality and a paid subscription ("GrindWise Pro") that unlocks additional features.

Subscriptions are billed through your Apple ID via the App Store. Payment is charged at the time of purchase. Subscriptions automatically renew unless you turn off auto-renewal at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period. You can manage and cancel your subscription in your device's Settings under your Apple ID, then Subscriptions.

Prices may change with notice. Any price change will take effect at the start of your next billing cycle after the change.

Free trial

The free tier allows you to log up to 7 shots with full suggestions, use the Smart Bag Scan once, and access all educational content. No credit card is required to use the free tier.

Refunds

Refunds are handled by Apple according to their App Store refund policies. We do not process refunds directly. To request a refund, visit reportaproblem.apple.com.

Your data

All data you enter into the app is stored locally on your device. We do not collect, transmit, or store your personal data on any server, with the exception of text sent to the Anthropic API when you use the Smart Bag Scan feature. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

You are responsible for backing up your device. If you lose your device or delete the app, your data cannot be recovered by us.

Acceptable use

You agree to use the app for its intended purpose: logging espresso shots and receiving brewing suggestions. You agree not to:

Intellectual property

The app, its design, code, content, and branding are owned by GrindWise and are protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. The educational content in the Learn tab is original material created by GrindWise.

Disclaimer of warranties

The app is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not guarantee that the app will be error-free, uninterrupted, or that suggestions will produce specific results. Espresso brewing involves many variables outside the app's control.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, GrindWise shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the app, including but not limited to wasted coffee beans, equipment damage, or dissatisfaction with brewing results.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States. Any disputes arising under these terms shall be resolved in the courts of competent jurisdiction.
